I've been working on this painting since 2019. Below, you’ll see the process and what it originally looked like.
The Process of Remaking a Painting
The painting now, in my view, represents people who cling to relationships even after love has faded. Whether driven by the fear of being alone or other reasons, they often choose to stay in empty relationships that ultimately erode both themselves and their partners.
This new meaning has inspired me to either continue working on the painting to reflect this updated interpretation or to create a triptych that better illustrates the new significance it has brought to light.
Original Painting ---- This painting was inspired by one of my favorite songs, "Nuestro Juramento" by Julio Jaramillo. I was particularly moved by the following lines: "Hemos jurado amarnos hasta la muerte y si los muertos aman, después de muertos amarnos más." ("We have sworn to love each other until death, and if the dead love, after death, love each other more.")--- Size: 24x38 inches ---Materials: Acrylic on illustration board
Since I always have an idea ready to go, I wanted to create a painting where I simply went with the flow. Initially, it began as an abstract work. However, as I progressed, a distinct image started to emerge. Although I attempted to maintain the abstract approach, I eventually found myself drawn toward the image forming in my mind. ---Size: 27x39 inches ---Materials: Acrylic paint on canvas
Some Paintings Forget to Come With Meaning.
My paintings, at times, come without meaning.
The colors and the figures are clear in my mind but I can not tell you what it means. In that case I look towards the audience to see the common meaning they have created. They are the ones that give meaning to my painting. In other words they are...
(My Second Eyes)
That’s exactly what happen with this painting.
People, mostly women and girls, after seeing the painting, have expressed feelings of hardship, abuse, growth, or finding peace.
