A quote my cousin said to me: "Lo que no se mueve se estanca, lo que see estanca see pudre."
"What does not move stagnates, what is stagnant sees to rot."
I saw my old self in this quote during a time when I use to be depressed. Diving back into the enjoyment of my childhood saved me. I left New York for Mexico and lived in the countryside for a few months. During this time I was seeing a better side of myself-a side I missed and knew was still somewhere within me. This act of making a big shift and pushing myself to leave what has become my comfort zone saved me from continually sinking into depression. (Size: 24x18-Materials: Colored pencil on paper)
Sleeping peacefully.
While the morning blue light sneaks through the uncovered window spots it finds.
A half of a room, a corner of a room I call mine.
Devouring all that it can reach.
Hoping this time it stays.
Maybe this time I’ll leave with it.
"My Hands Are the Windows to My Soul"--- This is an observational drawing of my hands in two different poses. It was a fun yet challenging experience. I had to draw with my non-dominant hand while observing my other hand. To me, my hands are like windows to my soul, reflecting the many creations they have brought to life—from my mind to my hands.--- Size: 18x24;--- Materials: Paper, Charcoal, and Graphite
"In Love with Life Is Peace with Death"---With this drawing, I aimed to showcase my Mexican culture by depicting a traditional dance while also illustrating the Mexican concept of celebrating the dead. The image came to me while watching a group perform a traditional Mexican dance on a cloudy day. ---Size: 18x24---Materials: Charcoal and Paper
"Architectural Fantasy"---This perspective drawing was initially done on a smaller piece of paper (8.5x11). I enlarged it by using a nail and a rope to map the perspective lines from the small piece onto the larger one.--- Size: 18x24--- Materials: Graphite pencil on paper)
